Frenship Foundation Hits $1-Million in Character Scholarships Awarded

During the 20th annual golf tournament held at GolfSuites Lubbock, the Foundation celebrated the 2024 Character Scholarship recipients and announced that 56 Frenship High School seniors would receive scholarships in the amount of $1,250. An additional three seniors from the Reese Education Center will also receive a scholarship later this month to bring the total to $73,750 in scholarships awarded in the month of May.

“The Frenship Foundation is so grateful to have incredible donors and sponsors who jump at the chance to support our Frenship students and staff. Their generosity, along with the work by our dedicated Foundation Board of Directors, allows us to continuing supporting our Frenship families in a big way,” said Tiffany Taylor, Executive Director of the Frenship Foundation.

Back in 2004, the Foundation started awarding Character Scholarships as a way to reward students who exemplify exceptional character, leadership, and service to others. The scholarship program has grown tremendously, from awarding only five students a total of $27,500 in 2004, to now recognizing between 55-60 seniors with more than $70,000.

“The more success we see with our fundraisers like the Drive for Leaders Golf Tournament, means more money that we can pour into our initiatives like these scholarships and our Teacher Grants that bring innovative programs and lessons into the classrooms,” said Taylor. “The support and generosity that we saw at this year’s tournament was overwhelming. From the amount of team sponsorships to the staff and community members who bought raffle tickets, it’s clear that our community is invested in ensuring our students and staff are supported.”

The Character Scholarship recipients were recognized during a scholarship presentation at the Drive for Leaders Golf Tournament in front of the sponsors, administrators, staff, and parents. New this year, the Foundation held a drawing where some of the students won various donated prizes like a brand-new laptop to use for college that was provided by Dell.  A special thank you to the golf tournament Title Sponsors: Aramark, Durham Transportation Services, United Supermarkets, and West Texas Land Guys.
